Health concerns at the forefront of world and volleyball community

Update 3/16/20 - 4:30pm

The SCVA has officially rescheduled Red Rock Rave 1 & 2 (March 28-30, April 3-5) to May 8-10th. All age divisions (12-18s) will compete on this single weekend. As a national qualifier, bids will awarded for 11-17 age groups, (18's will be a non-bid event). While we realize there is still uncertainty surrounding the long-term effects of COVID-19, Ignite plans to enter all teams previously attending Red Rock 1&2 into this event. We will watch CDC and health agency recommendations, as we cautiously move forward. If you booked with KC Sports Housing you have likely already been notified of hotel cancellations for previous Red Rock weekends. Ignite will work with KC Sports  regarding the housing/reservation process for the new dates (May 8-10th). We will keep you posted on any progress. Please do not contact KC housing about reservations at this time.

SCVA has tentatively rescheduled the restart of local tournaments on the weekend of April 18-19th.  They are also looking for dates to reschedule the canceled mandatories from 3/14, 3/15, 3/21 & 3/22.

The USAV restriction on events, practices, scrimmages and individual sessions is now extended through March 31st.  To do our part in the prevention of COVID-19 spread, Ignite agrees and complies with the mandate.  Further updates to follow.

Update 3/16/20 - 9:45am

Late yesterday, MGM Properties (including Mandalay Bay) temporarily suspended all operations until further notice at Las Vegas properties starting Tuesday, March 17th.  Cancellations through April 1st for Red Rock Rave have started from several hotels.

The decision by MGM Properties comes ahead of any announcement by SCVA about Red Rock Rave Qualifiers.  For those who booked through KC Sportshousing, to avoid penalty, we caution all families to wait for an official "event cancellation" before initiating on your own.  At this point it is not clear if a decision has been made on Red Rock Rave 2.

Update 3/12/20 - 3:00pm

With the very fluid situation of CoronaVirus and information learned within the past 30 minutes, Ignite is cancelling all practices, scrimmages, classes and lessons effective immediately through March 22nd. We will reassess at that point whether to resume practices or continue the temporary ban.

Ignite does not make this decision lightly and recognizes the disappointment amongst players, teams, coaches and families. Yet at the recommendation of our Health Organizations, Governor and Volleyball Agencies, believe that in the short term, social distancing is the role Ignite can play to prevent further spread of the COVID-19 health threat.  Ignite appreciates your patience and support in this matter.

18-M2 on 3/14 has been postponed

3/12/2020 - 10:50am

We stand beside our communities, state, country and world with the global effects of CoronaVirus. With the World Health Organization (WHO) declaring an official pandemic on March 11th, we are posting our responses in an effort to keep those in the Ignite and volleyball community informed, and further to do our part in the prevention and spread of covid-19.

Effective immediately all Ignite club practices and group classes are deemed "closed events." Only coaches, players and staff will be admitted into the building. While this is not typical Ignite practice, we are doing our part to prevent possible spread of the virus. For the time being, parents, siblings, friends, etc. will not be allowed at Ignite. Please continue to follow Ignite's guidelines by temporarily parking in a stall when dropping off your child.  Thank you for understanding and cooperating during this time.

Ignite continues to emphasize the Center for Disease and Control (CDC) health practices of:

  1. Stay home when sick.
  2. Using hand sanitizer regularly.
  3. Washing hands for more than 20 seconds.
  4. Cough into elbow or tissue and throw away tissue immediately.

In addition we have required/implemented the following:

  1. No sharing of water bottles between teammates
  2. No hi-fives or close huddles
  3. No use of cellphones during practice (put them away and in backpack--take out when leaving the building).
  4. Disinfecting all of surfaces, volleyballs and equipment
  5. Non-mandatory people temporarily not welcome at gym

The Southern California Volleyball Association (SCVA) has postponed tournaments between Sunday 3/15 and 3/22. This effects 17-M2, 12-M2, 13-M2 and 14-M2.  18-M2 on 3/14 is still scheduled, but we will update if anything changes. Colorado Crossroads has been cancelled. USAV Red Rock Rave  (Las Vegas tournaments on 3/28-30 and 4/3-5) determination will be made forthcoming.  Junior Volleyball Association (JVA) is postponing all events for the next 14 days. Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) has left decision on practices and events to local venues.

Ignite will provide more information as the situation develops. Our thoughts and prayers are with our Ignite family, those affected, the volleyball, local and global communities.
