Stay healthy, stay safe and let's #volleyon

Update: 6/2/2020

Ignite is working with the San Bernardino County Supervisor's Office and the San Bernardino County Health Office towards a safe reopening. As a COVID compliant business, we are incorporating protocols for the health, safety and well-being of our players, coaches, families and all those connected with Ignite Volleyball.

Be on the lookout for more information and a safe reopening.

Update: 4/1/2020

Classes will not be held online, but will resume when Ignite is able to reopen.

3/23/2020

The events of this past month have been wild, to say the least. Volleyball is temporarily shut-down, professional sporting events cancelled, restaurants moved to take-out, grocery stories have emptied shelves, schools are closed and even church services postponed—it feels like a futuristic, doomsday movie. While the directives imposed by our government are constraining, Ignite fully agrees with the measures taken to slow the spread of COVID-19. The disruption to normal life has been sobering, and I fear it will get worse before it gets better. Most significant for our kids is the eerie social distancing, the fact they miss volleyball, their teammates and further--they’re bored out of their minds!!

Despite the challenges of personal quarantine, Ignite will not sit on her volleyball hands. Our club was founded on 4 principals: a) teach the game; b) better the person; c) build community; and d) help kids get a college education. Even though social distancing won’t allow us to gather in person, Ignite is committed to accomplishing these values—even in a pandemic. We love volleyball and we love our Ignite family. So moving forward, here is what Ignite is doing to #volleyon

1 - Club Practices and Group Classes moving online
  • You’re probably thinking….How can we practice online? Good question!! While it’s not exactly the same as a ball reps and court time, there is much that can be done in a virtual volleyball session. Volleyball knowledge, film watching, community and player connection, conditioning and even ball reps at home can still be “practiced." Ignite is committed to training your kids whether in person or over the internet. Online club practices will be approximately one hour, twice per week. (Currently scheduled for normal practice time unless a different agreed upon time is unanimous.) Online volleyball classes like RSS and RPM will meet at the regularly scheduled times on Monday, Wednesday or Saturday for 30-45 minutes.
  • Ignite will use Zoom for video conferencing. Coaches will send out Zoom links or calendar invitation to players (or parents). Zoom works best when an app is downloaded on iOS or PC. It also works well on an iPad or phone. While there are lots of conferencing options, the tools and capabilities of Zoom make it superior in our minds to Google Hangouts, Facebook Live, Instagram Video and Skype.
  • Online practices begin Thursday, March 19th. Links will be sent on SE, through messages or attached to Ignite’s online calendar.
2 - Coaches to have Individual online Sessions with Club Players
  • Coaches will begin meeting with club players weekly (National) or bi-weekly (Elite & Select Teams) through video conference. They will watch videos, develop a volleyball and/or personal training plan and talk about emotional and mental growth. These 5-10 minute sessions will be great opportunities to get to know your coach, know yourself and know the game deeper.
  • Meeting times are encouraged around typical 3rd practice times (e.g. Thursday, Friday or Saturday.) They can also be done immediately after online team sessions or at an agreed upon time between player and coach.
3 - Ignite will Post Character Quotes on Social Media:
  • If there’s ever a time when personal vision, motivation and self-discipline come into effect, it’s now. Those who seize each day during the hiatus will have a distinct advantage over those who binge-watch Netflix.
  • Look for regular inspirational quotes from Ignite, pass them along to you friends and tag us when you've got something encouraging to say.
4 - College Recruiting Efforts Continue
  • Keep in mind that while you’re quarantined, so are college coaches. They are more dependent than ever on online communication, video and online sources. This is an excellent time to get your NCSA account’s up-to-date, while also getting study hours for the SAT, ACT or PSAT.
  • Research colleges while you have the time. Go on NCSA or US World to find out pertinent information on the schools you find interesting. Remember that we encourage 50 schools as a base for the recruiting process.
  • Meet online with Coach Paul to talk about college recruiting options.
  • Ignite will continue advocating for our players with college coaches, even more so during this time.
5 - Fun, Community Building Activities on Social Media:
  • Look for some fun contests, interactive feedback and activities through social media. Can you say TikTok competition?

As always, I’m available for any questions you may have. During this season I pray that you and your loved ones stay healthy and safe. Let’s volleyon!
