Boys Club Tryouts

Competitive training, positive coaching, and a clear pathway for boys who want to grow in skill, confidence, teamwork, character, and game-ready decision-making.

Boys Club at Ignite

Ignite fields Boys Club teams that compete in the SoCal Cup League and in JVA-, USAV-, and AAU-sanctioned events. The program serves athletes ranging from newer club players building a strong foundation to college-bound players competing on national travel teams.

Club volleyball develops complete players through technical training, competitive team play, accountability, and a strong team-first culture. Team placement is based on skill, position, roster needs, coachability, and the level that gives each athlete the best pathway for growth.

What to expect at tryouts

Our goal is to evaluate athletes fairly while giving players and families a clear picture of the Ignite training environment.

Skill and position work

Players are evaluated in serving, passing, setting, attacking, blocking, defense, movement, and position-specific skills.

Competitive team play

Coaches assess communication, transition, rotations, decision-making, effort, and response to feedback in game-like situations.

Placement and commitment

Placement depends on skill, position, roster needs, available spots, team level, coachability, and the best developmental fit.

Why choose Ignite?

Competitive development matters, but so do character, mentorship, healthy coaching, and the family experience.

Positive, competitive coaching

Players are challenged through clear teaching, correction, encouragement, and accountability without unhealthy coaching practices.

Our own gym

A dedicated facility supports more consistent practice schedules and more opportunities for clinics, lessons, workouts, and extra reps.

College recruiting support

Ignite helps athletes pursuing college volleyball understand recruiting, communicate effectively, and build a realistic plan.

Nonprofit mission

Ignite is a value-driven nonprofit committed to developing athletes, supporting families, and reinvesting in the player experience.

Strong training culture

Teams train with purpose, high repetitions, clear feedback, and age-appropriate expectations throughout the season.

Right-sized community

Ignite is large enough to offer competitive pathways and small enough for families to remain connected to coaches and directors.

Team levels and season pathway

Ignite offers a range of team experiences so developing athletes and high-level competitors can find an appropriate pathway.

National / Premier

Highest competitive level with increased practice, travel, workout, and tournament expectations.

Elite / Xcel

Strong competitive training with a balanced regional and travel schedule.

Select

Beginning-to-intermediate club experience with lower travel demands and a strong development focus.

Locals

Shorter-session team training and local competition for athletes building experience.

Club cost

Club team costs generally range from $3,500-$5,800 for the season. Final cost depends on team level, practice schedule, tournament and travel commitments, workouts, and added player features. Uniform fees are separate.

Play It Forward assistance

Limited need-based scholarship assistance is available to registered tryout participants through a confidential process that is separate from tryout evaluation and team selection.

View Scholarship Process

Play It Forward Scholarships

Play It Forward assistance is available for families whose athletes are participating in Ignite’s team-selection process and are seriously considering an Ignite club opportunity. Athletes must be registered for Ignite tryouts before a parent or guardian may request an application link. Scholarship applications are reviewed confidentially and independently from coaching evaluations, roster decisions, and team selection.

Why registration comes first: Registration confirms that the athlete intends to participate in Ignite tryouts and allows us to match the scholarship request with the correct player and age group. Registration does not influence team selection and does not guarantee a team offer or scholarship award.
Protect private information: Do not email financial or verification documents. Upload them only through the secure application link sent by Ignite administration.

Register for tryouts

Complete the standard Ignite tryout registration before requesting scholarship materials.

Request the secure link

Use the same parent email, player name, grade, and date of birth entered during tryout registration.

Apply and upload

Answer all required questions and upload the requested verification documents through the secure Zoho form.

Independent review

Scholarship reviewers evaluate the request separately from the staff making team-selection decisions.

Application requirements

  • The athlete must be registered for Ignite tryouts before the application link is requested.
  • Submit the application by the stated deadline.
  • Upload all requested documents that verify financial need and application responses.
  • Certify that the information provided is accurate and complete.
  • Respond promptly if the independent review team requests clarification.

Volunteer-hour requirement

If assistance is awarded and accepted, the family must complete the volunteer hours stated in the scholarship award agreement. Ignite will provide eligible opportunities, deadlines, and a way to record completed hours.

Awards are limited, may be partial, and depend on available funds and completed verification.

Age waivers

  • Certified birth certificate
  • Proof of current grade, such as a school schedule, school ID, or report card
  • Submission to the appropriate tournament or governing administrator before the roster deadline

Important eligibility note

A player who has enrolled at a college or junior college and has been cleared to participate by that volleyball program may become ineligible for regional and national junior programming. Families in this situation should confirm eligibility before registering.
